ASM AMR Coalition Meeting Summary

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an urgent global threat that is receiving unprecedented national and international attention. Resistance caused by bacterial pathogens has become a major focus. Recognizing the significance of AMR across the microbial sciences, the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) is establishing a new initiative to complement existing efforts, facilitate synergy, and provide a mechanism to move projects forward. At an August 3, 2016 meeting, a Steering Committee of diverse experts met to identify needs and potential opportunities for ASM action in the areas of stewardship and surveillance, environmental issues, clinical issues, and global perspectives.
