Embargo Policy

Articles that are accepted for publication in an ASM Journal are under embargo and may not be distributed in the public domain prior to the date and time the article is published. This embargo extends to press releases, website and social media promotions, and other public communications of the results and content of ASM journal articles. We advise that you contact the Journal's production staff for publication information. Please contact communications@asmusa.org for information regarding embargo times.

Embargoed materials may be posted to media servers or released to Public Information Officers prior to publication. However, PIOs are responsible for ensuring the embargo policies are adhered to. Embargo times and dates must be clearly marked on all press releases sent to journalists. Press releases may only be shared ahead of embargo with accredited, trusted journalists.

Authors are allowed to communicate and conduct interviews with the press as long as it is understood that their article is under embargo and discussions will not be published until the time and date of the article publication.
