Two lectures by ASM Distinguished Lecturer, Dr. Jill Stewart, Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina:

  • Friday: Ecology of Antibiotic Resistant Staphylococcus in Industrial Food Animal Production
  • Saturday: Global environmental change: Are we making populations of antibiotic resistant bacteria?

WAKSMAN AWARD –

The Annual Waksman Honorary Lectureship is awarded to a scientist who has a distinguished career in science and who has made a significant contribution to the field of microbiology.  Nominee need not be a member of TSS.

YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD –

The TSS Young Investigator Award recognizes the achievements of young investigators in the junior stages of their career, working in either academics or industry.  Students, colleagues, senior scientists or research directors are all encouraged to nominate exceptionally qualified people for this award, which is not open to post-doctoral fellows.  The winner will receive a certificate of award and be asked to address TSS at a future evening meeting. Nominee need not be a member of TSS.

GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP –

A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student studying microbiology or a related field.  The student must be matriculated at an institution within the geographical boundaries of TSS and may receive the award only once in his or her graduate career.  Successful candidate MUST be a member of TSS.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – POSTER AND ORAL PRESENTATIONS –

Abstracts of short papers of original scientific research are being solicited from undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral and industrial researchers for poster presentations for the TSS Annual Meeting in Miniature.  Cash prizes will be awarded for outstanding presentations in appropriate categories.  You need not be a member of TSS to participate in the poster presentations.
