The Roos laboratory seeks to integrate cell biological, molecular genetic, biochemical, immunological, genomic and bioinformatic approaches to elucidate the biology of protozoan parasites, eukaryotic evolution, and host-pathogen interactions. Key contributions include discovery and characterization of the 'apicoplast' as an essential secondary endosymbiotic organelle in apicomplexan parasites (including Plasmodium), and development of the Eukaryotic Pathogen Genome Database (EuPathDB.org).
