Dr. Waldor investigates fundamental and translational questions related to human enteric pathogens including Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC).

His main goals are: 1) Determining the mechanisms that mediate the replication and segregation of the two chromosomes found in all vibrio species; 2) Developing animal models of enteric diseases that will enable comprehensive assessment of in vivo bacterial physiology and host-pathogen interactions; and 3) characterization of the role of D-amino acids in governing cell wall dynamics.
