Conditions of Appointment

Fellows must begin the program between October 1 and December 31 during the year in which they are accepted. If the fellow is requesting to start the program before October 1, they must provide justification during the online application process. All fellows must undergo security clearance to work at CDC. Support after the first year of the Program is contingent upon satisfactory progress in the proposed research. Interim and final reports and/or presentations are required.

Fellows are expected to publish results of their studies in the scientific literature and to present findings at national meetings. Fellows are expected to conduct research according to the highest scientific and ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies regarding protection of human research subjects, humane care and use of laboratory animals, and laboratory safety. Participation in CDC seminar programs is also expected.

After completion of the two-year program, fellows are required to keep ASM informed of their current position, affiliation, and continued professional development for a minimum of ten years. This arrangement will ensure proper assessment and longitudinal studies regarding the effectiveness of such training.
