The logo of the American Society for Microbiology is registered with the U.S. Trademark Office. The logo may not be used on any materials not originating within or generated by the ASM Headquarters without the express permission of the ASM; such unauthorized use constitutes trademark infringement.


ASM’s logo consists of two parts: 1) the microscope illustration with the box containing it ("the mark") and 2) the association name. The logo mark and the name should always appear together. ASM recognizes two existing exceptions to this policy: ASM Press, which uses the mark together with “ASM Press” as its brand mark, and the pin that identifies participants in ASM’s CAP program. Under no other circumstances should the logo mark be used without the accompanying association name. In particular, the logo mark by itself is not to be imitated or used as a design or decorative element.


The logo or any part thereof should not be used in any manner that may imply that non-ASM materials, including but not limited to goods, services, Web sites, or publications, are sponsored, endorsed, licensed by, or affiliated with the ASM.


The logo must be used as provided by ASM electronically, with no changes, including but not limited to changes in the color, proportion, or design, or removal of any words, artwork, or trademark symbols. The logo should not be animated or otherwise distorted in perspective or appearance. The logo should not be combined with any other words, logos, graphics, photos, slogans, numbers, or other design elements.

Acceptance and use of the logo files constitutes agreement to the above terms.
