Fostering Scientific Dialogue in China


Sponsored by the Ambassador Project Fund, ASM Ambassador to China, Aijie Wang, and Young Ambassador to China, Wenzong Liu organized a delegation of ASM speakers to participate in a series of seminars aimed at fostering scientific exchange between US and Chinese scientists in Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu and Beijing. The delegation of speakers included Committee on Global Engagement member, Jizhong (Joe) Zhou, University of Oklahoma; Mary Firestone, University of California, Berkeley; and Adam Deutschbauer, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. ASM events were held at Shanghai Jiaotong University, Nanjing Institute of Soil Sciences (at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)), Northwestern Agricultural and Forest University, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (CAS), Institute of Microbiology (CAS) and the Chinese Society for Microbial Ecology Annual Meeting (CSME). In addition, the speakers led an ASM Workshop on Scientific Writing and Publishing at the CSME Meeting where 77 new members joined the Society.
