Supported by the Ambassador Project Fund, ASM Ambassador to Lebanon, Ghassan Matar conducted a Standardization of Antimicrobial Susceptibility Course on December 14th, 2013 at the World Health Organization (WHO) local office in Beirut, Lebanon. The course was attended by 50 laboratory technicians, laboratory directors and clinical microbiologists. All 50 participants became members of ASM. The course began with an opening statement by Dr. Nada Ghosn from the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) of Lebanon followed by a presentation on ASM membership, programs, and benefits by Matar and a virtual lecture by Dr. Jean Whichard, CDC. Matar is currently coordinating an ASM Molecular Diagnostics Course that will be held at the Lebanese Society for Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Meeting in February.
