STUDENT, POSTDOC AND FELLOW GRANTS

ABRCMS Student Travel Award

Application Deadline: Friday, August 26
The ABRCMS Student Travel Award provides undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students up to $1,500 to cover conference registration, housing, and/or travel (airfare). If accepted into the program, ABRCMS will provide further instructions on booking travel and hotel. Travel/hotel booked outside of the ABRCMS block will not be reimbursed. Graduate students and postdoctoral scientists are not eligible to apply.


Infectious Disease Fellows Program

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: Recipients will receive support for travel expenses (coach airfare, hotel, ASM Microbe registration, and breakfast on designated days) for the length of ASM Microbe 2016.
Description: This program offers ID Fellows a unique opportunity to attend ASM Microbe 2016 and participate in an experience specifically tailored to their educational development needs. This select group will have the opportunity to hear keynote talks targeted to them, participate in mentored poster walks, receive overviews of recommended sessions for attendance, interact with ASM Microbe 2016 Program Committee members, and be given personalized attention, including daily discussions to help them maximize their educational and career development experience.


ASM Infectious Disease (ID) Travel Award

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: $1,000 per awardee.
Description: The Program Committee will award a limited number of travel awards to support recipients’ travel to ASM Microbe 2016. Recipients will be honored as a "George McCracken Infectious Disease Fellow."


ASM Student and Postdoctoral Travel Award

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: $500 for North American residents (U.S., Mexico and Canada) and $750 for International residents.
Description: Travel awards are selected by the Program Committee on the basis of the scientific quality of the submitted abstracts. Funding from this award is meant only to defray travel costs for attending ASM Microbe; applicants may need to obtain additional funding from other sources.


The Richard and Mary Finkelstein Student Travel Award

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: $500 per awardee.
Description: The Richard and Mary Finkelstein Student Travel Award will provide support for students attending ASM Microbe 2016. Each awardee will present a poster in addition to being invited to give a short presentation of the abstract during the meeting. Only one travel award will be granted per laboratory.


Carlyn Halde Latin American Student Travel Award

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: Each awardee will be offered up to $1,200 to defray expenses associated with travel to the ASM Microbe 2016.  Allowable expenses are meeting registration, roundtrip economy airfare and lodging.  If the cost of the travel and registration is under $1,200 the remaining funds may be used to cover other expenses related to meeting attendance.
Description: This travel award, administered by ASM in collaboration with the Medical Mycological Society of the Americas (MMSA), supports the travel of a student medical microbiologist from Latin America, Puerto Rico or the Caribbean to participate in ASM Microbe 2016. This award is funded by an endowment from long time ASM and MMSA member Dr. Carlyn Halde. The awardee will attend the MMSA meeting and dinner held in conjunction with ASM Microbe 2016. The recipient would also be asked to give a short talk on medical mycology at his or her institution.


Mäkelä–Cassell Travel Award for Early Career Scientists

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: up to 4,000 Euros for FEMS members traveling to ASM Microbe 2016.
Description: This award recognizes future leaders in microbiology by supporting travel for early career scientists to present a poster of their research at ASM Microbe 2016.


ASM Minority Travel Award

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: Each awardee will be offered up to $1000 to defray expenses associated with travel to the ASM Microbe 2016. Allowable expenses are meeting registration, roundtrip economy airfare and lodging.

FACULTY TRAVEL GRANTS

ASMCUE Travel Award
The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) offers a travel award to increase faculty's knowledge and skills in the microbiological sciences.  A second goal of the program is to increase participation from a larger group of biology faculty to work closely with ASM to improve undergraduate microbiology in the 21st century.

ASM Minority Travel Award

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: Each awardee will be offered up to $1000 to defray expenses associated with travel to the ASM Microbe 2016. Allowable expenses are meeting registration, roundtrip economy airfare and lodging.

ABRCMS Judges' Travel Subsidy

Application Deadline: Tuesday, July 12
Postdoctoral scientists and faculty members available to judge all poster and oral sessions scheduled throughout the conference and to mentor ABRCMS Student Travel Awardees are eligible to apply for the ABRCMS Judges’ Travel Subsidy. The subsidy provides up to $1,850 to cover travel related expenses, one conference registration (which includes all scheduled meals, conference materials, closing banquet and access to all sessions) and/or housing for 4 nights at a conference hotel. Preference will be given to active researchers in any of the twelve scientific disciplines represented at the conference. If accepted into the program, ABRCMS will provide further instructions on booking travel and hotel. Travel/hotel booked outside of the ABRCMS block will not be reimbursed. New and returning judges are eligible to apply.


ASM-LINK Undergraduate Faculty Research Initiative (UFRI) Fellowship*

Application Deadline: September 12
Post-doctoral and STEM faculty researchers are encouraged to apply for a 2016 ASM-LINK Undergraduate Faculty Research Initiative (UFRI) Fellowship. This fellowship supports STEM faculty to develop successful undergraduate research programs. In addition to virtual and onsite training and mentoring, travel subsidies will be awarded to (1) encourage collaborations with potential research partners and students, (2) increase participation of STEM researchers at ABRCMS, and (3) access resources to advance undergraduate research programs. Eligible applicants will: possess a PhD (or equivalent) in any STEM field, attend two-day pre-ABRCMS training, participate in the ABRCMS judging program, and express commitment to train undergraduate students in STEM research and education.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Travel Award for Scientists from Low and Low-Middle Income Countries

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: Recipients will receive support for travel expenses (ASM Microbe registration, coach airfare, ground transportation to and from the airport, hotel expenses, and meals) for the length of ASM Microbe 2016.
Description: This travel award program was created for scientists from low and low-middle income countries to attend ASM Microbe 2016.  


Morrison Rogosa Travel Award

Application deadline: January 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Amount: Each awardee will be offered up to $3,000 to defray expenses associated with travel to the ASM Microbe 2016.  Allowable expenses are meeting registration, roundtrip economy airfare and lodging.  If the cost of the travel and registration is under $3,000 the remaining funds may be used to cover other expenses related to meeting attendance.
Description: This travel award  recognizes outstanding research accomplishments for women scientists in Armenia, Albania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, the Republic of Croatia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.  Preference will be given to those working in bacteriology, but women in other fields are also eligible.
The Award is made possible through an endowment from Dr. Morrison Rogosa.


ASMCUE® Leadership Grant for International Educators 

This program has been developed to enable a select group of educators from resource-limited countries to attend the ASMCUE® and a pre-conference workshop to provide leaders in education with the resources to build innovative teaching modules that engage students and lead to enduring understandings in microbiology.
