Abstract submission is now closed!

Abstract submission deadline: Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. CT

Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts that describe their original research results. Accepted abstracts will be presented in scheduled poster or oral sessions and published in meeting materials. Abstract authors will be notified by email of the status of their abstract and any pertinent scheduling information on September 21, 2017.

Twenty ASM Student and Postdoc Travel Grants will be available for graduate students and new postdocs

(within 4 years of earning doctoral degree). Travel grants are competitive and tied to abstract submission. Apply for a student travel grant during the abstract submission process.

Invited speakers will lead off each session, complemented by additional speakers selected from the abstracts.

Submission Instructions

Step One: Login

The ASM Conferences DO NOT use the ASM Single Sign On (SSO) login credentials. (Only the ASM annual meetings use this ASM membership-related login.) If you have submitted an abstract via Oasis for an ASM Conference in the past you will use that login or request a reminder. If you have not submitted an abstract for an ASM Conference in the past, you should select “Create a New Account” link at the top of the left side of the login page.

Step Two: Submission

Click the "New Submission" button to begin the abstract submission process.

Step Three: Title (not included in the 2500 character limit)

Please provide a short and concise title that indicates the content of your abstract. Your title will be turned into all CAPS to conform with ASM publication standards. Do not place a period at the end of your title. Do not place hard returns in your title. Italicize scientific names of organisms, highlighting the scientific name by selecting the italics button. (example: Staphylococcus aureus results in "Staphylococcus aureus").

Step Four: Author(s) (not included in the 2500 character limit)

Approval of all co-authors must be obtained before placing their names on the abstract.
Author's names will be displayed using first initial(s) and full last name. Presenting authors will be displayed in bold type (e.g. J. Smith, W. S. Brown, and R. A. Jones).

Add co-authors and their affiliations. Each institution and author will be referenced with superscript numbers and include the institution’s city, two-letter state/province abbreviation and country.

You may change the order of how the authors are listed by clicking the button on this page.
ASM will correspond with the presenting author only. Changes in the presenting author must be communicated to ASM. It is the responsibility of the presenting author to contact all co-authors with the disposition and scheduling of the abstract. The complete address of the presenting author is required in order to assure that correspondence arrives promptly and easily.

Step Five: Presentation Preference

Select “Poster or oral presentation” in order to be considered for either a talk or a poster. Select “Poster Only” if you do not want to be considered for an oral presentation. There is no option to be considered only for oral presentation.

Step Six: Abstract (included in the 2500 character limit - spaces are not counted)

Your abstract may have up to 2500 characters. Spaces are not counted. Do NOT include abstract title, authors or keywords in abstract text. Abstract text may be submitted using either of the following methods: Copy/paste, direct entry keystrokes, or file upload. ASM also recommends that the abstract is divided into four (4) sections and bold each section as follows: “Background,” “Methods,” “Results,”and “Conclusions.”

Please note (Apple Macintosh Users Only): To preserve formatting and scientific characters imbedded in your abstract text, please use the Upload a File Containing Your Abstract.

Step Seven: Additional Information

Level of Education
Select your current level of education. If you are a postdoctoral fellow, select Postdoc. If you have earned your Ph.D. and are no longer considered a postdoctoral fellow, select Ph.D,

Travel Grants

ASM provides up to 20 travel grants of $500 per person to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who have earned their Ph.D. less than four years ago. The grants are competitive, based on quality of abstract. Gender and geographic balance are also considered. To apply, select ‘Yes” from the drop-down menu. No further application is required. If selected, awardees must provide proof of eligibility and are required to be ASM members at the time of the conference. Membership status is not considered during the selection process.

Step Eight: Review Your Work

It is very important that you review you work to proof accuracy of all elements of the submitted abstract including spelling and figures. Ensure that the character count is within the 2500 character limit to guarantee that the abstract submission process is complete.
