ASM supports the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief in Côte d’Ivoire. ASM provides technical assistance, training and capacity building for HIV Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) and Viral Load Testing, TB diagnostics, TB/HIV infection control, testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and fostering a culture of quality across the laboratory network.

ASM works in close collaboration with CDC-Côte d’Ivoire, the Côte d'Ivoire Ministry of Health, as well as local partners, such as the African Medical Laboratory Services (AMLS), Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Health Alliance Initiative, Fondation Ariel, and ACONDA, and private sector partners, such as BioContainment Infrastructure Services (BIS).

Success Stories

In 2015, ASM made concerted efforts to scale-up and decentralize quality HIV testing focused on case-finding in key at-risk populations, to accelerate care and anti-retroviral treatment.

In Côte d’Ivoire, ASM established four containerized molecular laboratories to decentralize HIV early infant diagnosis (EID) and viral load (VL) monitoring in four regions with high HIV prevalence. In 2015, over 1,000 infants have been tested and 4,000 VL tests performed. Five additional laboratories are being established in 2016 to provide coverage across the country. These efforts are vital because Côte d’Ivoire has one of the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in West Africa, with only 15% of HIV-exposed infants receiving timely early infant diagnosis, and only 8% of HIV-positive children, 0-14 years of age, receiving antiretroviral therapy.

BioResource Center (BRC)

The purpose of the BioResource Center (BRC) is to provide scientists, educators, laboratorians, policy makers, and students with cutting-edge scientific resources, training, and increase their knowledge-base of biological sciences. The BRC in Côte d'Ivoire serves as a location for scientists and stakeholders to convene; offers access to cutting-edge scientific resources; and provides ongoing professional development training through scientific webinars, virtual workshops, and also on-site workshops and lectures.

Ambassadors to Côte d'Ivoire

The Country Ambassador would be a senior scientist that represents ASM in Côte d'Ivoire, facilitating partnership and exchange with other scientists worldwide, while the ASM Young Ambassador would be a dynamic young leader, who also represents ASM in Côte d'Ivoire, facilitating networking, professional development, and collaboration to strengthen science globally. The ASM Young Ambassador would be responsible for mobilizing the next generation of scientists to develop innovative approaches to meet the Grand Challenges in Science.
